Abu Dhabi court clears man of raping 8-year-old boy
ABU DHABI // A man accused of raping an 8-year-old French boy has been acquitted by the Appeals Court, his defense lawyer said yesterday.
The man, a Filipino who was married to the maid employed by the boy's family, admitted that he sometimes went to see the maid when the family was out and that they would have sex, but said he did not rape the boy.
At the Criminal Court the man was sentenced to three years in jail and fined Dh21,000 to be followed by deportation. The Appeals Court however ruled that the boy's testimony alone was not sufficient evidence and cleared the Filipino last June.
