Abu Dhabi accused ran over and killed boy, 12, over prank, court told

Man is to appear in court charged with premeditated murder of 12-year-old boy who threw rubbish in his car.

ABU DHABI // A man is to appear in court charged with running over and killing a 12-year-old boy who he blamed for throwing rubbish into his car.

Prosecutors say the man was sitting in his car in Mussafah when three boys opened the vehicle's door and threw a pile of rubbish inside. The three boys then ran away and were joined by a fourth boy - the dead 12-year-old, from Sudan - who ran with them despite not having played a part in their prank.

The man chased the boys but soon gave up. About 15 minutes later he saw the four boys in a sandy area and drove towards them. Three of the boys ran out of the way but the fourth boy ran towards the car instead and was run over.

A forensics report found the boy's death was caused by a trauma to the head which caused a major breakage of the boy's skull and subsequent bleeding that led to his death.

Prosecutors charged the man with premeditated murder and with endangering lives.
