Couple hang daughter, 8, then kill themselves

RAS AL KHAIMAH // The bodies of an Indian family have been discovered hanging from a ceiling of their home by RAK police.

Police said yesterday that they believe Anil Kumar, 44, and his wife, Sreeja, 31, hanged their eight-year-old daughter Anusree before they killed themselves.

Due to advanced decomposition, police believe the family died several days before their bodies were found, Lt Thaer Al Najjar said.

The child's face was covered with a cloth.

It is thought the family had financial troubles and could not pay for utilities. The father's profession was not known.

The bodies were found after a neighbour reported a strange smell. The case has been referred to public prosecution.

"Once death certificates are issued by the local authorities, the consulate would register the same and arrange for repatriation of their mortal remains," a spokesman from the Indian consulate said. "The consulate is maintaining a close liaison with the local authorities on the issue."
