ABU DHABI // A series of concerts, a giant cinema screen and a Brazilian-style street festival will transform the Corniche in the weeks leading up to the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Yasalam ('Amazing') programme of events on the Corniche and Yas Island will aim to build anticipation for the race on November 1, starting on October 16, and culminating in a concert by the American band Aerosmith after the race. Among the artists performing on the Corniche are the American hip-hop star Timbaland, the British duo Soul II Soul and the Lebanese pop star Myriam Fares.
John Lickrish, the managing director of Flash Entertainment, which is managing the programme, said: "Yasalam has been designed to appeal to all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, so whether you're a motorsport fan or not, from the UAE or overseas, there will be lots of exciting things for you to do in Abu Dhabi this October." Car and motorsport-related films such as The Italian Job, Cars and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be shown on a large screen on the Corniche beach, which will also play the Brazilian Grand Prix on October16. The screening will coincide with a large Brazilian festival on the Corniche, featuring a band, parade and street entertainers.
Behind the scenes, F1 drivers, engineers and managers will deliver a series of talks to school pupils and university students in a bid to encourage interest in developing a home-grown motorsport industry. email@example.com
