ABU DHABI // Aspiring filmmakers in the region have a shot at recognition if they accept a competition's challenge to create a one-minute movie that depicts the meaning of "home".
The online Makshoof Film competition, organised by Flip Video, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and the triplew.me website, is open to filmmakers with any level of experience. The deadline for entries is March 24.
"The one-minute film, as a medium, focuses more on the story than the production, making it instantly accessible - it can be scripted, a documentary, a silent movie, anything. That's the beauty of the one-minute film," Paul Kelly, the managing director of triplew.me, said.
Participants will be required to create a profile on the website before uploading their entry, which can be in either Arabic or English. Twenty-four hours later, after an editorial team has viewed the submission, it will appear live on the website and can be linked to the participants' profiles on Facebook and Twitter.
Mr Kelly said the competition was meant to foster up and coming regional talent and allow amateur moviemakers to demonstrate their skills, gain exposure for their work and connect with a larger audience.
Winners of the competition will be announced on April 7.
The prize has not yet been revealed by the organisers.
