Car fire halts traffic on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road

DUBAI // A car caught fire on Sheikh Zayed Road after it collided with another vehicle earlier today.

The accident occurred just under Al Safa interchange towards Abu Dhabi at 1.58 pm, after the cars collided, due to speed Dubai Police said.

The driver of the car, an Indian man, managed to escape unharmed before the car burst into flames. No other injuries were reported.

The accident brought a big stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road to a standstill as authorities were working to extinguish the fire and remove the cars.

Tailbacks were reported between Dubai Mall and Mall of Emirates.

"We have removed the damaged cars and the traffic is soon to get back to normal," said a spokesperson from the Dubai Police traffic department.
