DUBAI // The emirate’s police chief has tweeted a picture of yet another supercar to join the force, kitted out in its white and green livery.

The car in the photograph is a Bugatti Veyron, the fastest street-legal car in the world and will be the quickest in Dubai Police’s fleet with a top speed of more than 430kph.

Containing a monstrous quad turbo, 16-cylinder engine, the Veyron produces more than 1,000 horsepower, which makes it capable of accelerating to 100kph in a lightning 2.7 seconds.

The almost Dh10 million Bugatti also set the record for fastest roadster in the world just over a year ago.

The convertible model of the Veyron also boasts a smart rear spoiler, which can detect whether the detachable roof is on or off so it can tilt itself to the optimum angle.

The extra wind-drag with the rooftop down will slow the Bugatti to a meagre 375kph but that is still fast enough to make it the world’s fastest convertible.

The rendered image, tweeted by police chief Dhahi Khalfan Tamim on Wednesday, set off a wave of reaction on the social media website.

“The cops in Dubai are rolling and patrolling in style,” tweeted @QuebecCarFan.

Another user noted: “Finally a car that can outrun the Dubai police Lambos,” with another writing, “World’s best police cars? Dubai, of course!”

With Dubai Police already boasting an Aston Martin One-77, a Bentley Continental GT, a Ferrari FF, a Lamborghini Aventador and a Mercedes SLS, the addition of the Bugatti would put its superfleet’s worth at more than Dh20 million.

Police hope that the fleet will help in Dubai's bid to secure the right to host Expo 2020.
