Briton claims self-defence

DUBAI // A British man charged with the attempted murder of his neighbour during a drunken brawl last November has admitted assaulting his victim, but claimed he was defending himself. According to the testimony of the defendant's flatmate, identified as MB, the victim, LC, entered their apartment wielding a knife and intending to kill the defendant, SC, 26. A fight ensued between the intoxicated men and LC suffered an injury to his nose and cuts from broken glass.

Both men have been charged with being intoxicated. LC's case has been referred to the Dubai Misdemeanours Court, while the Court of First Instance will issue its ruling on the attempted murder charge on Tuesday. hmbathish@thenational.ae
