Britain's new ambassador arrives in UAE

ABU DHABI // The British government has named Dominic Jermey as its new ambassador to the UAE, replacing Edward Oakden who departed after a four-year tenure. Mr Jermey arrived on Monday, according to the embassy, but has yet to present his credentials to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Before moving to Abu Dhabi, Mr Jermey, who is accompanied by his wife and two children, served as a director in UK Trade and Investment, a government body tasked with helping UK companies be successful in international markets and encouraging overseas companies to invest in Britain.

He has been stationed with the foreign office in Madrid, Thailand, Afghanistan and Pakistan, but the UAE is his first post as head of mission. Mr Oakden was awarded a First Class Independence Order by Sheikh Khalifa before leaving last week. @Email:lmorris@thenational.ae
