Boss stabbed over unpaid wages

RAS AL KHAIMAH // A labourer who claimed to have not been paid for three months is accused of stabbing his boss. The 29-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was found at around 4am on Tuesday, said Major Abdullah al Mazrouei, the chief of the Mamourah police. He had been stabbed repeatedly in the back with a medium-sized kitchen knife. His life is not in danger and he is being treated in hospital. A 27-year-old Bangladeshi worker at an electrical contracting company was arrested, Major al Mazrouei said, and confessed that he carried out the attack because of unpaid wages. The stabbing victim told police he had fired the man and that he did not owe him any money. Capt Hamad al Awadi, a spokesman for RAK Police, said it was the first time in more than five years he had heard of a violent crime over unpaid wages. "I advise all workers in all companies if they have any problems with their manager or their department to go to the official section," he said. "They can make a complaint at the Ministry of Labour or they can go to the courts or the police. We can help them." The case has been referred to prosecutors. @Email:azacharias@thenational.ae
