Baby girl's body found near Sharjah mosque

The body of a newborn baby girl was found near the King Faisal Mosque in the Al Sour area of Sharjah yesterday morning.

A resident called police at around 8am after he found the baby covered in a small blanket near palm trees.

Officers took the child's body to Al Qassimi hospital where doctors confirmed she was dead. The public prosecutor has ordered the body be taken to the police forensic laboratory to help with investigations.

Police are searching for the child's mother.

There have been a number of cases of babies being abandoned by their mothers in Sharjah. In June, a maid was arrested after she threw her new born baby down a rubbish chute. The boy survived and is being cared for at the Sharjah Social Care Centre.
