A baby eagle ray was born at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai today.

The team at The Lost Chambers Aquarium announced the first birth of a spotted eagle ray, native to the Arabian Gulf, at The Ambassador Lagoon.

"A birth like this is extremely important in helping grow the numbers of these majestic creatures," said Steve Kaiser, the vice president of marine sciences and engineering.

"We hope to raise the numbers of the species and ensure a healthy gene pool is maintained for breeding internationally."
