Athletes enjoy a special day at Al Ain Zoo

The National staff

A group of Special Olympic athletes have concluded their visit to the UAE with a trip to Al Ain Zoo.

They fed carrots to black-tongued giraffes, toured the farm-inspired petting zoo and saw a falcon and reptile presentation at the education centre.

The athletes were in the country for the Regional Volleyball Cup Special Olympics of the Middle East and North Africa.

The next Special Olympics World Games will take place in South Korea in winter 2013.

The UAE's team are known for their strength in equestrian sports. Athletes won several medals at the 2011 World Games in Athens.
