DUBAI // An architect caused the death of one of his workers by failing to ensure he followed safety regulations while checking a roof leak, a court was told yesterday.
SJ, 39, an Indian, was responsible for the death of MJ, a designer, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard yesterday.
Prosecution records showed that on January 17, MJ noticed rain seeping through the company's workshop ceiling and went to the roof to fix the leak. He fell to his death.
KS, 42, a carpenter, testified that MJ said he would climb on to the roof at about 11.30am. A few minutes later, KS saw him lying on the ground.
He told prosecutors he did not know whether SJ had ordered MJ to fix the leak.
Police were called and MJ was taken to Rashid Hospital, where he died of injuries to his head, chest, back and abdomen.
Dubai Municipality inspectors said the shop was not a safe working environment.
The company was fined and issued a warning.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 12.
