Appeals court upholds sentences of four jailed over abortions


The Dubai Appeals Court has upheld sentences against a cleaner and three maids involved in abortion cases.

The cleaner, who was found guilty of inducing abortion in at least two maids who conceived out of wedlock, was jailed for three years and fined Dh10,000 for exercising a medical practice illegally.

A maid, found guilty of neglecting a live six-month-old foetus for 10 hours until it died, was sentenced to five years in prison and deportation.

Two maids who had abortions were jailed for three years and will be deported.
