Abu Dhabi firefighting championship to see keen contests

One hundred firemen will step up to the challenge for glory at the Abu Dhabi Firefighters Championship (ADFFC) next Monday.

ABU DHABI // One hundred firemen will step up to the challenge for glory at the Abu Dhabi Firefighters Championship (ADFFC) next Monday.

The ADFFC, organized by the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with 911 fire and safety will see firefighters from all over the country battling out for three days on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Lt. Col. Saeed Rashidi, the General Administration of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said that the tournament aims to develop the capacity and skills of the men and raise their efficiency and fitness to be ready to perform the tasks and their duties to the fullest.

This came during a press conference; held the organizing committee of the tournament this morning, "Wednesday" in the Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi, attended by and Peter Sils, from a company 911 for training on fire fighting and safety, and Salim Mohammad Naji of Marine Dredging Co. sponsors of the tournament.

Mohammed Hassan Al Ahmadi, from 911 fire and safety said that the tournament will be a race against time to battle fires and save lives.

The competition will involve fire and rescue operations during different kinds of accidents.

The competition will see the contestants submit their best times after passing six obstacle courses while performing their different tasks.

The tournament will start on Monday at noon and will continue until six in the evening.

Mr Al Ahmadi said that the tournament was previously organised Qatar and Saudi Arabia and will be organised later in Kuwait. He said that they are currently planning to organise the tournament at a Pan Arab level.
