60kg turtle rescued in Dubai's Palm Jumeirah

DUBAI // An injured 60kg green turtle was rescued off the Palm Jumeirah’s east coast on Wednesday last week.

The turtle was spotted by residents who alerted security, and staff from Nakheel’s security and marine teams went to its aid.

The turtle, which has a cracked shell, is now being treated at the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.

“This one is one of the biggest I have ever seen,” said Brendan Jack, head of Environment and Sustainability at Nakheel.

“It must have been hit some way out to sea before being washed in to the waters of the Palm. We hope it makes a full recovery so it can be released back into the ocean and get back to its normal environment.”
