The Ministry of Environment and Water has announced that it has begun planting 15,000 mangroves along the UAE's coast. The drive will continue until the end of 2012. Ten thousand mangroves were planted last year.

Dr Mariam Al Shenasi, the undersecretary of the ministry of environment and water, told Al Ittihad that the ministry intends to plant 45,000 mangroves along the country's coast next year.

She said 6,000 trees had been planted in Ajman this year.
