As well as speeding, some drivers in Abu Dhabi were fined last year for driving too slow.

128 drivers fined for going too slowly

Abu Dhabi Police's traffic department issued 128 tickets to motorists driving below the minimum speed limit last year.

Brig Gen Hussein Al Harthi, head of the department, said: "Low speed can lead to jams on the road, which can cause accidents."

The fine for driving too slowly is Dh200.

It comes as Abu Dhabi reconsiders its speed limits. In one example earlier this month police and road safety experts have suggested reducing the enforced speed limit to 140 kph on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain motorway.

They believe it would reduce crashes. They would also like to see people driving more intelligently regardless of the speed limit.

Col Hamad Al Baloushi, Abu Dhabi Police's head of traffic in the external regions, said he hoped the enforced speed limit would be lowered soon from its current 160 kph.
