120 workers paid salaries in court order

ABU DHABI // More than 120 workers were paid a total of Dh1.5 million in compensation yesterday after an order by the Labour Court.

About 170 workers at an unidentified contracting company had filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour because they were not being paid a salary and other allowances.

Their employer was "stalling" rather than responding to their requests, the complaint said.

After negotiating with the employer, the ministry sent the complaint to the Labour Court's reconciliation section, which formed a team to mediate between the workers and the company.

After both parties met at the Supreme Labour Court, a settlement for 120 workers was formulated. The other 50 cases were filed with the court as no agreement was reached.

The court has begun working on sending the 120 employees back to their home countries.
