Should the UAE be doing more to cut down on polluting vehicles?


Transport officials have postponed indefinitely plans to impose toughened vehicle emissions standards and a halt to the import of vehicles more than five years old. The move provides a reprieve to car owners who faced expensive emissions repairs or outright banning of their vehicles. The decision this week follows a decree last month by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, President of the UAE, to postpone a controversial measure banning of vehicles more than 20 years old. Should the UAE be doing more to cut down on polluting vehicles? Or would these measures have been unnecessarily punishing the owners of older cars.?
