Travel news: Enjoy the new Shangri-La Bosphorus or a cool, early summer in Tibet

Soak in river views at the Shangri-La Bosphorus or spend time in central Tibet including at Everest base camp.

Rest easy at the new Shangri-La Bosphorus

The Shangri-La Bosphorus has just opened in a converted 1930s tobacco warehouse on the European side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Its guestrooms range from 42- to 60-square-metres in size, most with river views; 17 suites have private terraces. Istanbul's Shangri-La has a Chi spa and a signature Chinese restaurant, Shang Palace, all of which will be familiar to Abu Dhabi's residents. Local Turkish attractions close by include the over-the-top Dolmabahce Palace and the boutique-lined streets of Nisantasi. A double room starts from €649 (Dh3,061) per night, room only. For more information, visit www.shangri-la.com.

Enjoy the coolness of early summer in Tibet

Early summer is a good time to visit Tibet. Kathmandu Travels and Tours offers a number of organised tours of central Tibet, led by English-speaking Tibetan guides, including time at Everest base camp, from its base in Kathmandu, Nepal. The seven-night tour, for example, commences with a memorable flight over Mount Everest, before days spent on the road with time to take in the sights of Lhasa, Gyantse and Tashilumpo Monastery in Shigatse. An eight-day tour of Tibet costs from US$735 (Dh2,699) per person in a group of 12 staying in a three-star hotel, including breakfast and domestic transfers.
