Oasis: Chilling signal of global warming


The US National Snow and Ice Data Center released this satellite picture from September 16 of the Arctic ice cap. On its own, it would be unremarkable, but take a look at the added yellow line: it represents the ice cap’s size on the same day, averaged between 1979 and 2000. More worrying, at the ice cap’s current rate of reduction, scientists predict the Arctic Ocean will be ice-free before 2050.
