North Dakota bucks trend

NORTH DAKOTA // Despite the success of the "Cash for Clunkers" programme in getting inefficient cars off US roads, as well as the global recession, consumers in North Dakota are still spending big on expensive recreation vehicles. While car sales are generally down by more than 20 per cent across the US, North Dakota has bucked this trend with an 8.2 per cent increase, which translates to an extra $83 million (Dh304 million) being spent statewide. However, buyers in the state are not favouring small, economical cars, but rather larger RVs and SUVs.
