Minister calls for strict laws

BEIRUT // Lebanese Interior Minister, Ziyad Baroud, has called for stricter procedures for obtaining driving licences, government-regulated driving schools and improved public transport. The death toll on Lebanon's roads is around 500 per year and Baroud says road safety laws need to be amended to reduce this figure. Baroud hopes that he can garner support to overhaul laws when a new government is formed. The Lebanese political situation is uncertain after prime minister-delegate Saad Hariri resigned when he was unable to form a coalition government.
