Jaguar's XKR-S convertible is expected to make an appearance possibly as soon as the Frankfurt Motor Show. Lehmann Photo-Syndication

i-spy: Jaguar XKR-S set to debut convertible model

While the tin-topped Jaguar XKR-S has been out since spring this year, this shot proves a topless version of the British monster is in the pipeline, too. The prototype is undergoing top-speed handling tests at the German Nürburgring. The same aluminium V8, with 550hp and 691Nm of torque, is expected to show up under the cabrio's bonnet; obviously, the drop-top keeps the coupé's rather ungainly snout. With the usual weight added to a convertible's chassis for reinforcement, expect its zero-to-100kph times to be a few ticks off the hard-top's 4.2 seconds, but not by much. The cabriolet should have no trouble reaching the coupé's top speed of 300kph, though. Expect the cabrio version to be officially unveiled soon, possibly as early as next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show or the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
