I-Spy: BMW's new 1 Series GT spotted out for testing

Our spy photographers have managed to catch the upcoming BMW 1 Series GT hatchback, scheduled for an official launch next year. This car is much bigger than it appears from this photograph; there is room inside for four adults sitting comfortably. In fact, the interior space is a good indication that the new GT is front-wheel drive. The back of the car is heavily disguised, but you can see that there is a sharp angle to the rear window. Set to compete against the Mercedes B Class and Volkswagen Golf Plus, this five-door hatch will share its platform with the next generation 2013 Mini Cooper, as confirmed by BMW chairman Norbert Reithofe: "For these new vehicles [the new BMW and Mini] we are developing a common architecture for both front- and four-wheel drive."
