Go gear: F1 racegoers

We look at three essential items for racegoers to Yas Island, including an old-fashioned stopwatch, binoculars and an iPhone app.

Lap of honour

Forget all that new-fangled digital timing and technology; go old-school like they did in the 1950s with this retro stopwatch from Tag Heuer. In paying homage to the company that was founded in 1860, the Swiss brand has revived this design from its archives. The chrome-bodied stopwatch with a one-fifth second feature is a limited-edition model; to get a quotation, you need you to contact the website at www.tagheuer-timing.com. Pretend you're cheering on Juan Manuel Fangio!

A vision of beauty

William Optics decided to set its benchmark against the quality that comes out of the Maranello marque when creating the Ferrari Visio binoculars. The company claims it was inspired by Ferrari's Formula One cars in its sportive design and the use of carbon fibre, together with the best optical glasses. The binoculars come in a presentation box together with a practical neck-strap and a cordura pouch with a distinctive Prancing Horse shield. For prices contact the manufacturers at www.williamoptics.com

App-y racing

As if your iPhone doesn't do enough already, along comes this app from the official F1 website. Now, from the stands, your car or your living room, you can track the progress of every driver, from position to best lap time. Circuit data, such as current air and track temperatures, rainfall, air pressure and humidity levels, plus wind speed and direction are also available. The app also carries info from all races in the current seasons. Available, for free, from www.formula1.com/mobile_services
