Clampdown on smugglers

LIBYA, TUNISIA // New measures designed to improve border security between Libya and Tunisia might also help to stamp out the illegal smuggling of petrol and cars, as well as drugs, between the two countries. The measures include exchanging information on smuggling, a joint customs guide on the movement of goods and travellers, and introducing modernised electronic processes for the submission of certificates of origin for goods transported between the two countries in northern Africa. Petrol is usually smuggled from Libya, where it is cheaper, and then sold in Tunisia at a profit.
