Camaro designer quits GM to take up role at Volkswagen

CALIFORNIA // Sangyup Lee, the man credited with making the Chevrolet Camaro desirable again, has left General Motors to join Volkswagen. He will join Volkswagen as the car maker's chief designer for the exterior later this month. He will be based in California. Lee, who had been employed by GM for the past decade was responsible for designing the stunning exterior of the fifth-generation Camaro and reawakening interest in the moribund muscle car. He was also the genius behind the 50th anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept, most recently seen at the motor show in Dubai last month. Both the Camaro and the Corvette concept appeared in last year's successful Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen film sequel. Lee's other credits include the 2004 Buick Velite Concept, which defined the brand identity for the current generation of models made by the car maker.
