A new view of F1 racing

ABU DHABI // The 3D craze that has been revived in the cinema in recent years with films such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland is now set to make an impact on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Formula One fans who have missed out on obtaining the much-coveted tickets to see the race live at Yas Marina Circuit will have the opportunity to be involved in a world first - the first-ever 3D live screening of F1 races. The live 3D screenings will be held at the Abu Dhabi Hilton Hotel on the weekend of November 11-13. The techology will be used again for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Sao Paulo, the final race of the 2011 season, on the weekend of November 25-27. The screenings will use Japanese technology that splits a signal in two, one for each eye, before marrying them back together when viewed through polarised glasses. In the summer the Fifa World Cup featured 25 matches utilising the latest 3D technology. Cinemas in the UAE showed these matches. The live 3D screenings are part of Hilton Hotels's partnership with the McLaren-Mercedes racing team.
