Royal China restaurant in DIFC
Fresh off the bustling streets of Shanghai and London, the recently opened Royal China restaurant is our new favourite destination for traditional Cantonese cuisine. Don't expect your run-of-the-mill Chinese food - this chain is all about authenticity. Spoil your mother with a gourmet meal, be it light dim sum or classic lobster noodles. The trendy eatery in DIFC is the perfect setting for an evening out, with deep red and mahogany tones throughout that will make you feel as though you're on a trip to the Far East.

Nothing beats a good breakfast in bed, so why not prepare a feast for your mum, complete with a cup of freshly brewed coffee in these charming mugs? The sight of them alone is enough to put a smile on her face. The set of mugs from the British porcelain makers LSA was such a bargain that we had to buy two sets in case we have a lot of guests over.

Sarah Burton's S/S 2011 collection for Alexander McQueen took our breath away, and it wasn't just the magnificent dresses that we loved. The shoes, accessories and bags captured the essence of the brand, with bold prints and kaleidoscopic patterns. The De-Manta clutch (seen here) is the sweetest way to treat your mother this year. The bag has just the right amount of colour, a sharp silhouette and, most importantly, enough room for all mum's essentials for a night on the town.

Every once in a while we come across a piece of jewellery that we know will become a great investment. This butterfly necklace from Damas certainly falls into that category. It combines a bit of girlishness with grown-up femininity for a great day-to-evening piece, a definite keeper in your mum's jewellery box. The pink, yellow and white gold give the necklace a sophisticated touch, perfect when paired with a light summer dress.

The shoe designer Charlotte Olympia is our new go-to for sky-high heels. The deceiving platform on these "Dolly" pumps not only makes your legs go on for miles, but it also makes them remarkably comfortable. This version in red suede with a gold platform is the best way to spruce up your mother's wardrobe. The bang-on trend colour gives a nod to spring's vibrant collections without going overboard.
