This season's best new home decor buys

September brings the new trends, looks and products for autumn/winter. A more muted palette predominates; the vivid tropical hues that were everywhere this summer are replaced by greys, purples and soft blues. Patterned and craft-inspired designs such as appliqué, crocheted and knitted accessories remain popular. Here are some of our favourite new finds

A cut above

The British artist and illustrator Helen Musselwhite (www.helenmusselwhite.com) specialises in papercut sculptures and collages, mainly with playful woodland designs. This poster for Ikea's new collection of wall art features her signature trees and flowers and a trio of wide-eyed owls. We like the one with the wink. Solmyra poster, Dh70, Ikea Yas Island.

New lines

A highlight of The Home Centre's new collection, the fabric design on this occasional chair has undeniable echoes of Missoni, though these stripes can be yours for far, far less. Lily chair, Dh795, Home Centre stores nationwide.

Best nest

Indigo Living's new collection is a fusion of contemporary furniture and traditional Asian-inspired accent pieces. We particularly like this nest of chunky Perspex side tables. It's distinctive in style yet versatile enough to work in any number of schemes. Domestic goddess

This Kimono Doll dish brush set is part of Harvest Home's new range of washing up accessories. Her kimono is a dish cloth, although, like the rest of her, far too pretty to be let near dirty plates. Dh68, Harvest Home, Jumeirah Beach Road, Dubai, www.harvesthomegroup.com

Swede success

Ikea's new collection contains a number of impressive surprises, one of which is the Isala range, a contemporary take on the traditional Swedish Gustavian style of furniture, including this elegant cabinet. The range also includes a coffee table, desk and console table and all are available in both mauve and the typically Gustavian colour, grey. From Dh895, Ikea Yas Island

Brighter outlook

The Australian bed linen company Kas also stocks a great range of cushions, and the newest additions include this vibrant retro-inspired design in the colour you can expect to see a lot of this season: purple. Dh99, Kas, Dubai Mall
