My mum opened the homeware and gift shop Harvest Home in 1985. It was one of the first of its kind in Dubai. I grew up with the shop and have worked there since I was old enough.
I opened ZaZeeZou a couple of doors down four years ago. The idea was that it would be a shop selling toys, nursery products and children's clothes by small, independent brands that are hard to find in the UAE. So we have Emma Bridgewater's children's range of crockery and beautiful traditional wooden toys by the French brand Moulin Roty.
In terms of clothes, we stock ranges by the funky London label No Added Sugar, Kidorable and Rock Abye Baby, a rock 'n' roll inspired range of clothes that come packaged in a record sleeve cover.
We're really proud to support locally made products, such as Sandu Star's Sock Monkey toys. These are made by Dulhani Lakmali, a Sri Lankan lady in Dubai. They sell like hot cakes.
At this time of year our fun raincoats and wellington boots are very popular, either for bad weather here or for people who travel back "home" for Easter. Aden + Anais's swaddle blankets are another very popular product as well as Daisy Roots handmade leather shoes.
We also work with several people who you can find at Dubai's monthly Arte markets. They're full of inspiring and incredibly creative people. Pink Poodle is a personal favourite. We have just started stocking his range in Harvest Home. Another place we like is the Art House gallery on Al Wasl Road. That's great for framing and picking up unusual bits and pieces; the manageress Jodie Cummings really knows her stuff and creates incredible Arabic calligraphy art.
ZaZeeZou is located on the ground floor of the Jumeirah Centre. Call 04 344 0204 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. To see a selection of their products, visit www.harvesthomegroup.com or see the Harvest Home Group page on Facebook
