I specialise in making fun home accessories, cards and gifts inspired by musicals and classic Hollywood films. I had always loved musicals and old movies, and I found it hard to find anything original, fun and quirky related to that, especially in this part of the world. I've lived in the UAE for 20 years, since I was 11. Before that I was in the UK.
I have great fun making my badges and magnets, and thinking up new ideas for them. My latest range, for Mother's Day, is a tongue-in-cheek collection inspired by Joan Crawford and the film Mommie Dearest.
My main inspiration, though, is The Wizard of Oz, and my best-selling item is probably my Shoe Money money box, with Dorothy's ruby slippers on them.
I was thrilled to get my products stocked by Harvest Home in Jumeirah at the beginning of this year. It's been my favourite gift shop in Dubai since I was in my teens, so it's amazing to have my products in there. And it's just so wonderful as a crafter when your products actually sell.
I love what I do, but I was always concerned there wasn't a big enough market for it. I proved myself wrong.
I totally recommend Harvest Home, of course. Everyone at Arte, the monthly craft bazaar at Times Square Mall, is brilliant, too. Sparklefairy and Gorgeoustuff are two of my favourite traders there, and I'm loving Ragini Nagu's quirky sketches.
Pink Poodle products are available at Harvest Home in Jumeirah Centre, Dubai, and at the Arte market in Times Square Center, the second Friday of every month (except July and August). For more information email nick.h.roberts@hotmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/pinkpoodledubai
