Adam Levine of Maroon 5 performing in New York in July.

What's hot, what's not

Yes. That's right. As in the Adam Levine last seen fronting Maroon 5. He's decided, like many pop stars, that a musical career demands some kind of venture into fashion, too. The line, out next spring, is to be called 222, which is his lucky number. We are to expect minimalist, embellishment-free jeans, leather jackets, silk dresses and T-shirts.

The most gorgeous things we've seen for some time. The label's autumn/winter collection focuses on vintage toys, including a snakes-and-ladders design and one scarf covered in Victorian hobby-horses, rattles and merry-go-rounds. Sadly, they're available at Barney's, which doesn't ship here. But please, can a kindly UAE buyer take note and order in for next year?

Rumour has it, the Precious star is in talks with Bobbi Brown to launch a make-up line. Here's hoping it's as outrageously flamboyant as the actress herself.

Zara and H&M are finally leaping into the 21st century by launching online stores, but they won't be shipping to the UAE. Boo.

Developed by the British fashion site www.glamour247.com, these are jeans designed with a special waistband that they promise will hold in mens' bellies and help "any man look as if they have lost a few pounds". Seriously?

Uh-oh, its fall from grace continues. The chain has posted losses of between US$5-7 million (Dh18-26m) for the second quarter of this year. Shares have subsequently dropped and the firm has expressed "substantial doubt that the company will be able to continue".
