The Awakening

Nick Murphy makes his big screen directorial debut with an atmospheric thriller that recalls such films as The Others and The Orphanage. Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Frost Nixon) plays post-WWI hoax exposer Florence Cathcart, asked to investigate the case of a boy who has reportedly died of fright at an English boarding school. Florence accepts and soon finds herself spooked in the dank, shadowy halls of the school. While there is no shortage of spine chilling moments, the mystery, when finally unravelled, is convoluted and underwhelming.
