Carnage

Film

Mar 30 - Apr 5, 2012

Roman Polanski directs a film entirely set in a Brooklyn apartment, based on Yasmin Reza’s stage play God of Carnage. Two sets of parents (Jodie Foster, John C Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz) are meeting to discuss a playground altercation between their sons. The conversation starts cordially but soon descends into accusations. “The dialogue is funny, especially in revealing the true selves of the character,” writes Kaleem Aftab in a review for The National. But the limitations of the material eventually become apparent and the storyline loses gusto. “Carnage always feels like it would be better watched on stage than screen; something not true of truly great stage adaptations such as Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope and Sydney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men,” continues Aftab.
