Black Gold

The story starts out with a peace deal, whereby Nesib, Emir of Hobeika (Antonio Banderas) and Amar, Sultan of Salmaah (Mark Strong) agree that neither can lay claim to the area of no-man’s-land between them called The Yellow Belt. Twelve years later, Nesib is visited by an American from Texas who tells the Emir that the land is blessed with oil, promising him riches beyond his wildest imagination. Filmed mainly in Tunisia and Qatar, Black Gold is based on the Hans Ruesch novel The Great Thirst, and is directed and co-written by Jean-Jacques Annaud (Enemy at the Gates, The Name of the Rose). Also stars Freida Pinto.
