In his latest series of paintings, Egyptian artist Mohammad Abla introduces viewers to some of the important characters in his life, past and present. The body of work gives audiences an insight into family dynamics in Egypt, and Abla’s in particular. Touching portraits of family scenes somehow feel familiar, stirring the memory with nostalgic imagery and symbolic references. Alba first gained international renown in the 1980s for his blending of European influences with traditional Egyptian painting techniques and motifs. His work has been acquired by the British Museum of London and sold at Christie’s auction house.
