Nakheel, the troubled Dubai property developer, is pushing forward with its Jumeirah Golf Estates project just weeks before a major tournament there.
The company said today it had "received the necessary support from the Government of Dubai to recommence development of the project". The Race To Dubai golf competition is taking place at the project from Nov 25 to Nov 28. Only part of the development is finished, including one of the golf courses.
Ascon and Associated Construction and Investments are "expected to remobilise infrastructure works on site shortly", Nakheel said.
After receiving support from the Dubai Financial Support Fund earlier this year, Nakheel has been prioritising projects to be restarted. So far, these have focused on developments that have made some progress. Eight projects are moving ahead, including al Furjan, Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Heights Clusters, Veneto, Badrah, Jumeirah Islands Mansions and International City.
Nakheel has not yet given any guidance on when it would move forward with its largest projects, such as The World archipelago, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira.
