The story behind Yas Waterworld centres around a pearl diving village called Qaryat Al Jewana that gained its wealth from a massive pearl.
Sadly, the pearl one day disappeared in a fierce storm and the village slowly lost its wealth and became terrorised by bandits.
Over the years the story of the lost pearl became just a legend told to children. One such child is Dana, the daughter of the chief pearl diver who rushes off to find the pearl, after a conversation with her friend, a dolphin called Bubbles.
But a band of greedy bandits overhears and follows her.
Dana travels through the desert and makes friends with a camel called Hamlool, an antelope called Dhabi and a falcon called Shaheen, each of whom have been told about the legend by their mothers and who say that the pearl will only be found “where sapphire is set in gold, where gold is studded with emeralds and where innocence falls to sapphire”. The friends unravel the riddle to find out that the pearl is hidden in an oasis near the village.
They set off to find it but are beaten to the spot by the greedy bandits who mistake the reflection of the moon in the water for the lost pearl.
Defeated in her efforts, Dana sits by the water and weeps.
Suddenly there is a deep rumbling and the pearl magically rises from the water and the village is able to prosper again.
