My landlord gave me a year’s notice as he wants to sell the property. He has yet to do that in writing. What happens from here when we get to three months before the end of tenancy? MS, Dubai
You mention in your correspondence that your landlord has given you 12 months’ notice, as he wants to sell the property but clearly has not yet done it in the proper manner as per the law. He has to put it in writing, have it notarised and sent to you via registered mail. This is the only legal way for him to communicate the changes in your circumstances.
He cannot backdate it as the 12 months’ notice has to be in writing. So you can either explain this to him now or say nothing and wait. When the time comes, you can express your cooperation to vacate once the legal notification has been served. The notification should have the 12 months’ notice from the date of the letter.
