To cater to an emerging cohort of "confident and successful women," the luxury car maker Bentley has introduced a handbag collection.
Featuring two models, The Barnato and The Continental, the bags are meant to reflect what Bentley considers its essential values: "an exquisite design aesthetic, highly skilled craftsmanship, attention to detail and dynamic performance."
The bag project was driven, if you'll excuse the pun, by the Bentley board member Ariane Reinhart.
"More than luxury vehicles, Bentley's [handbags] today are capturing more and more women's hearts through their elegant lines and flawless materials," she says.
The Barnato is named after Diana Barnato, the socialite daughter of Woolf Barnato, one of the original "Bentley Boys"' - a group of 1920s wealthy British motor enthusiasts - and a chairman of the company.
The Continental is named for one of Bentley's famed model lines.
"Just as the Bentley Boys are our historical racing heroes, and an iconic part of the brand, today there is an emerging culture of confident and successful women, 'Bentley Girls', with the same adventurous spirit," Dr Reinhart adds. "We are creating this luxurious and stylish handbag series to appeal exclusively to these modern women."
Bentley's head of product design, Daniele Ceccomori, worked closely with the renowned luxury leather bag craftsman Vincent du Sartel to create the accessories.
"With the actual design of the handbags we wanted to create a strong link with some of the key features on our cars," Mr Ceccomori explains.
This limited edition collection comprises 160 bags globally - 80 of each style - in four colours. Each will contain a metal plaque displaying its individual number in the series. There will also be the option to have this personalised to the owner and their car.
The Bentley Handbag Collection will be available from the end of October 2013 from the two Bentley dealerships in Dubai, located in the Marina and Deira.
This collection is to expand in 2014 to include new models.
