Emirates airlines has announced three extra weekly flights to the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

Emirates to bolster Tripoli services by 40 per cent

Dubai-based carrier Emirates is to increase capacity on its Tripoli services by 40 per cent.

The airline announced today that it will introduce three extra weekly flights to the Libyan capital from November 1, bringing its total number of weekly flights there to 10.

“The number of passengers travelling with Emirates has been growing steadily since the launch of the Tripoli service a decade ago,” said Haitham al Battawy, Emirates manager Libya.

“We have received numerous requests from both business and leisure travellers within Libya to increase services."

The additional services will offer an additional 774 return seats a week and will also increase cargo capacity for Libyan exporters, said Mr al Battawy.

The airline has enjoyed a busy 2010, launching five new destinations; Tokyo, Amsterdam, Prague, Madrid and Dakar. It will also resume direct flights to New York's JFK airport on October 31.
