Opera in high definition, you ask? The Metropolitan Opera, a 129-year old arts company in New York, will be live streaming their production The Nose on Meydan IMAX hall on November 17.

The Met: Live in HD broadcasts series is an attempt by the organisation to transmit their award-winning performances to movie theaters around the world for a wider audience to enjoy. The Met began relaying their shows in 2006 and has sold more than 12 million tickets to date.

The Nose is a piece by composer and pianist Dmitri Shostakovich about a beleaguered Russian official and his runaway nose. The production will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov, with a cast including Paulo Szot as the hapless Kovalyov, with Andrey Popov as the menacing Police Inspector and Alexander Lewis as Kovalyovs peripatetic nose.

Met Opera stars serve as hosts for the HD series, conducting live interviews with cast, crew and production teams and introducing the popular behind-the-scenes features. The worldwide HD audience gets to see the happenings backstage. The 2013-2014 season at Meydan IMAX began on October 27 and will go on till June 8, 2014.
