Itís been a while since all things geeky were celebrated in Dubai. Which is why the GeekFest Dubai Reunion, which takes place tonight, is where all the action will be for deprived geeky souls.†
The GeekFest team began offline social meet-ups for people with an interest in technology and online platforms in 2009.
The initiative by the two UAE-based social media mavericks Alexander McNabb and Saadia Zahid, spread to Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Amman, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Jeddah.
It was discontinued in Dubai when the community space Shelter, where it was held, shut down.
Now the team is back with an extensive line-up of networking opportunities, GeekTalks, tech demos and performances at the Burj Park.
From 8pm to 9pm there will be four 15-minute talks by representatives of crowdfunding platform Eureeca, search consultancy Sekari, online professional community website Nabbesh and volunteers from the Sameness Project.
UAE-based musician Jay Wud and his band, which opened for Guns and Roses in Abu Dhabi last year, will be performing at GeekFest from 9pm.
The tech-savvy can also test some of the devices on display, while gaming enthusiasts can try out the latest gadgets and indulge in PS3 wars at GameFest.
GeekFest Dubai will take place at Market OTB, Burj Park - Burj Khalifa. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/GeekDubai or follow @GeekFestDubai,†@alexandermcnabb or @saadia on Twitter.
