Great ideas. Another way is to change around existing rugs, or investing in a new one. If you have a hand knotted rug you can even just turn the rug around for a subtle change. That is because a hand knotted rug has a nap, and because of the nap the rug looks different when viewed from each end. One way the rug looks lighter and the other way the rug looks darker. This is good to know also when setting a rug in a room. Lighter colors bring objects forward and darker colors make them look further away. So if you show the dark side of a rug, the room will "recede" and look larger. Show the lighter side to make a larger space feel more cozy and a little smaller.
