An update: both Bronze Cannon and Grand Vent were euthanized due to injuries sustained during the race.

Excellent Piece. But I disagree with you on the public still giving a blanket "get out of jail free card" to Afridi as a reward for his jazba-laden performances. Sure enough the public support was firmly behind him when there was talk of stripping him of captaincy prior to WC. And it was still there when he vowed to take the PCB to court during the messy and really confusing Butt-Waqar-Afridi tug of war. But his actions since then have belied a much more opportunistic personality than he has always claimed to have. They now see him for what he his, a slippery tongued, unstable person, who is not averse to throwing a tantrum or two in order get his way, instead of discussing the matter in an adult like manner. And I suspect he has got a hint of this as well. Hence his reluctance to respond to Waqar's rebuttal yesterday. Misbah on the other hand, has shown himself to be above such petty disputes. Another one of the long list of reasons why the team needs him to be in charge for the next couple of years before his successor can be identified and a smooth transition can be insured. The fact that Misbah has fortunately or unfortunately got very little career left to be suspected of carrying ambitions for individual glory, makes me confident that he will always have the team's best interests at heart.
