I love this article as it articulates my feeling about Beirut's spirit. I am a native New Yorker living here for 8 years now, and also admit to taking the Bus, strolling Dora on weekends, flee markets and other acitivites that in New York we love as part of the rich fabric of city life. This is true for all real city lovers in the great cities of the world. But all cities have their share of a paranoid exclusive class, we (New Yorkers) call them "suburanites' , considered an insult to New Yorker. So Bravo Micheal. And fellow Beirutis, cherish your deiversity; interact, participate, observe and preserve what is great about your city. Dont fear the poor and different. All members of a city bring its life and character.

I think that Mubarak has had 30 years to show he would do the "right thing" and yet all we hear of are human rights violations and abuses, and a secret police force who have no care about beating people and torturing them.
